NFHS rules writing committees consist of experts in the given sport. Each committee member is nominated by state associations, as is the chairperson, who guides the members through their work. Each of the NFHS’s eight sections are represented on the given rules committee. To allow for equal representation, there is also a member of the NFHS Coaches Association and the NFHS Officials Association on each rules committee. Each committee member serves a four-year term.
The NFHS is pleased to welcome two new members of the Track and Field Rules Committee: Lonnie Tillman and Sheree Beaumont.
Lonnie Tillman, Section 3, has served as an Associate Director at MHSAA since July 2011 where he oversees Track & Field and Cross Country along with other various sport administrative duties. He has hosted numerous track and field regional and south state meets before joining the MHSAA. Lonnie has over 39 years of experience as a track coach, football coach, and administrator. In 1999, he received the CAA and in 2016 the Distinguished Service Award from the NIAAA. From 2005-2007, he served on the NIAAA Board of Directors.
Lonnie is a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi and was inducted into the Mississippi Athletic Administrators Hall of Fame in the spring of 2022.
Sheree Beaumont, NFHS Coaches Association, began running at the age of 11 and participated in several Junior Olympics. While participating in high school track from 7th to 12th grade, the team won four state titles with one runner-up finish. Beaumont is currently beginning her 31st year of coaching track at Louisville Male High School in Louisville, Kentucky, and has coached cross country for eight years. While coaching at Male, the team has won three state titles, with one runner-up finish and one Virtual State Champion (due to COVID). She is also a member of the Kentucky Track and Cross Country Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
Beaumont has been married for 40 years and has two grown children and two grandchildren. Both children and grandchildren were/are involved in Track and Field.
The Track and Field Rules Meeting will take place June 12-14, 2023 in Indianapolis.
