As an organization, College Golf Camps strives to connect golf coaches with much needed professional development and educational opportunities. Until recently, its focus had been solely aimed at college coaches. However, College Golf Camps hopes to expand its reach to high school and junior coaches around the country.

Last July, in conjunction with its Coaches Convention in Dallas, Texas, College Golf Camps invited coaches to attend the first High School and Junior Golf Coaches Convention. It provided these coaches a chance to network with college coaches and experience an impressive schedule of workshops and speakers.

This year, College Golf Camps looks to expand their High School and Junior Golf Coaches Conventions by holding them at each of the three national conventions held during the year. They are:

• July 6-8, Susses County, New Jersey
• July 26-28, Dallas, Texas
• December 4-6, Las Vegas, Nevada

College Golf Camps Vice President Harry Amend is a former high school principal and superintendent and understands the value of a convention like this for high school coaches.

"Finding at least two golf coaches for each high school often involved recruiting teachers who related well with kids and were eager to give coaching golf a try," Amend said. "But they had little or no knowledge of how to get organized and develop a program where kids could improve and succeed at some level."

The goal of educating high school golf coaches rings true to the NFHS, which has developed its Coaching Golf online course for it Coach Education Program. In addition to teach the fundamentals of golf, the course aims to help coaches develop a program, from picking a squad to practice plans.

The NFHS and College Golf Camps will look to share resources and work in cooperation to build awareness of continuing education opportunities for high school golf coaches.
