As state wrestling tournaments start to wrap up around the country, some inspiring stories have surfaced.

In Indiana, New Palestine wrestler Chad Red finished his career with four state titles and 183 wins with no losses. He joins two previous Indiana wrestlers with an undefeated career record.

In Nebraska, two brothers faced each other in the Class A 132-pound final.

In Alabama, Macon Edwards completed a perfect season that is ranked among the best ever. His season win total of 90, ranks second all-time in the National High School Sports Record Book.

Perhaps the most inspiring wrestling story also happened in Alabama, where Pelham High School's Hasaan Hawthorne finished an unbeaten senior season with a Class 6A state title. Even more impressive is that Hawthorne is a double amputee.

Pelham wrestler Hasaan Hawthorne is unbeaten this season and won the Alabama 6A state title at 145 pounds.

That would be impressive enough, but then consider that Hawthorne is a double amputee who was born without tibias.

Hawthorne, a senior, outpointed Southside-Gadsden’s Landon Thompson in the title match Saturday in Huntsville to run his record to 37-0. He was named the state championship meet’s Most Valuable Wrestler in 6A.

“I just worked hard in practice to get ready,” Hawthorne told AL.com. “Landon is pretty tough, he’s a good wrestler.”
