Innate goalkeeping reflexes have contributed to Danny Hrenko’s placement in national high school soccer lore.

On December 14, the Land O’ Lakes (Florida) Sunlake High School senior recorded his 75th career shutout. It vaults him to the top of the NFHS record book, pending state association approval.

"I didn't really know about the record until this year," Hrenko said to the Tampa Bay Times. "My coach and dad knew I had a bunch of shutouts through the years and looked it up one day and there it was.

"As it got closer, everyone started mentioning it to me. There was pressure, but I didn't feel it too much."

Hrenko added that scoring his third goal of the season on a penalty kick was “more fun than anything else” in the Seahawks’ 8-0 victory over Gulf High.

Hrenko’s 75 shutouts would eclipse the previous mark of 74 set by Thomas “Mike” Gallagher of the St. Louis Christian Brothers College in 1997.

Seahawks head coach Sam Koleduk believes that by season’s end, Hrenko’s career total will “shatter” the current record.

“You’ve got to look at the record, and if you put it into perspective, he’s going to average over 20 shutouts a season, which is quite remarkable,” Koleduk told The Laker/Lutz News. “I think it’s the biggest accomplishment in probably Pasco County soccer history and, probably, in the state of Florida.”

Hrenko’s 20 shutout average has been ongoing since his freshman year and is a streak he will look to maintain when he takes his talents to Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida.

"Over the past four years, I've been blessed with a solid defense and players who have spent years playing club soccer," Hrenko said. "Hopefully, we can keep adding to the shutout total."
