Florida Golf State Champion Gives Back to "First Tee" Youth

Brett Roberts, who won the Florida High School Athletic Association state championship last year, is giving back to the sport he loves.
The 17-year-old Coral Springs golfer recently paid a visit to The First Tee of Broward at the Pompano Municipal Golf Course.
Roberts shot 69-66 for a 9-under par, 135 to win the Class 3A individual championship by one stroke over Brett Schell of Bartram Trail on the El Campeon Course at the Mission Inn Resort and Club in Howey-in-the-Hills last fall.
Roberts, who trailed at the state tournament by five strokes with 11 holes to play, battled back to win and that was one of the things he spoke about with members of the HANDY organization.
“Brett spent some time speaking with the participants about how he started playing golf at age 8 and what it took to become the Florida boys state champion at age 17,” said Jack Bloomfield, director of operations for First Tee of Broward. “He emphasized one of our core values — perseverance.”
