Legendary LaPorte (Indiana) High School baseball coach Ken Schreiber, who was a 1999 inductee into the NFHS’ National High School Hall of Fame, passed away at age 83 on September 8 in Michigan City, Indiana.

Schreiber, who also was a member of the Indiana Baseball Hall of Fame and the National Baseball Hall of Fame, finished with a record of 1,010-217 and had the highest winning percentage of any coach in any sport in Indiana. His teams won seven state titles: in 1967, 1971, 1976, 1982, 1987, 1990 and 1992, and his 1973 team was runner-up. Schreiber also led Slicers teams to 25 conference titles, 28 sectionals, 18 regionals and 11 semi-states.

Schreiber, who coached LaPorte High School for more than 38 years, was considered the greatest high school baseball coach in Indiana history.
