Year after year, Carmel (Indiana) High School excels on the playing field, donning conference titles and state appearances. For the girls swim team, the success isn’t anything new.

The Greyhounds finished their season on top, winning another Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) state title, bringing their total championships to 29. With another title under its belt, the Carmel girls swim team continues to hold the nationalrecord for all-time consecutive state championships with 28 consecutive titles, beginning in 1986.

In addition to holding the nationalrecord for most consecutive championships, the Greyhounds had a day of record book swims. They will now sit in the national record book among the fastest times for the 200 freestyle relay (second), 400 freestyle relay (tied for second) 200 medley relay (third), 50 freestyle (third), 100 backstroke (seventh) and 100 freestyle (thirteenth).

At the state level, Carmel broke IHSAA records in the 200 medley relay (1:40.83), 200 freestyle relay (1:31.37) and 400 freestyle relay (3:21.20). Junior Amy Bilquist broke the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle records, with times of 22.17 and 48.93, respectively. Sophomore Claire Adams mirrored Bilquist’s success, grabbing state records in the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke, with times of 1:46.95 and 52.97, respectively.

Outside of the Greyhound squad, an additional three state records were broken and eight additions were added to the national record book from other teams at the IHSAA state girls swim championship.

• Penn senior Bethany Galant found two spots in the national record book for the 100 breaststroke (fourth and state record) and the 200 IM (tenth), with times of 59.66 and 1:57.52, respectively.
• Penn will sit in the twelfth spot for the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:34.21.
• Crown Point junior Aly Tetzloff will go in the national book for the 100 butterfly (fourth and state record) with a time of 52.70.
• Crown Point finished with national record times of 3:22.03 and 1:42.78 in the 400 freestyle relay (fourth) and 200 medley relay (twelfth), respectively.
• Zionsville sits fifteenth in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:24.44.
• Evansville F.J. Reitz junior Lillia King found the sixth spot in the national record book with a time of 59.99 in the 100 breaststroke.
• Ritter junior Sarah Bacon beat the state record in the 1 meter diving competition with a final score of 546.45.
