Leadership Spotlight: NFHS Female Activity Committee Chairs

NFHS committees consist of individuals with diverse backgrounds in the given sport/activity. Various NFHS sections are represented across the nation and there are three women who currently serve as the chair on various activity committees, and we would like to spotlight these female leaders.

Kelly Foster, Spirit and Student Services Chair

Kelly Foster has been at the Oregon School Activities Association (OSAA) since January of 2016.  As an Assistant Executive Director at the OSAA Kelly is responsible for the administration of Cross Country, Cheerleading, Choir, and track and field.  She also assists in coordinating state tournaments in volleyball, soccer, football, basketball, wrestling, golf, softball, and tennis within the state of Oregon.  Additionally, she is the staff liaison for the Sportsmanship, Sports Medicine Advisory, State Championship, Cooperative Sponsorship Task Force, and Special Olympics Committees.  

Amy Perras, Music Chair

Amy Perras is the Instructional Supervisor for Music, Art, and Library Media for Milford Public Schools in Connecticut, a role she took on after spending 14 years teaching PK-12 instrumental, choral, and general music.  In addition to her work in Milford, Amy is the President of the Connecticut Arts Administrators Association. In 2023, Amy received the Connecticut Music Educators Association Outstanding Administrator Award. Amy holds a Bachelor of Music from Nazareth University, a Masters in Educational Leadership from Central Connecticut State University, and a Sixth Year Diploma from Quinnipiac University.  Currently, Amy is pursuing her Educational Doctorate from Fairfield University. 

Jana Riggins, Speech, Debate and Theatre Chair

Jana Riggins joined the University Interscholastic League in 1997 serving as State Director of Speech & Debate and assisting with the entire academic program. Prior to becoming a staff member, she taught speech and coached forensics in Texas public schools for twenty-one years, directing award-winning programs. She holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Baylor University, and in 1991, she was named one of the original recipients of the UIL-Denius Sponsor Excellence Award and commendation by The University of Texas in Austin College of Education with the Texas Excellence Award for Outstanding High School Teachers for bringing honor to the teaching profession and inspired dedication to students. Selected as Texas Speech Teacher of the Year, she is one of only forty-two educators in the state of Texas to be named a “Master Teacher” by the Commissioner and State Board of Education.
