The Sherwood High School softball team from Sandy Spring, Maryland, has not lost a game since 2011, when they were eliminated from the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association (MPSSAA) playoffs by Silver Spring (Maryland) Montgomery Blair High School.
It is some coincidence that Sherwood beat Blair May 4 to claim its 78th straight victory, breaking the Maryland state record. The Warriors are currently aiming towards a 4th straight state championship this year, and continued their streak with their 79th victory on Monday, May 11.
The 79 consecutive wins ranks sixth all time in the National High School Sports Record Book, pending MPSSAA approval.
