Meredith Messer: National Girls Soccer Coach of the Year (2018-19)

By Hannah Wishart on January 17, 2020 coaches Print

The NFHS is proud to name Meredith Messer of Camden Hills Regional High School in Rockport, Maine as the 2018-19 Girls Soccer Coach of the Year!

Building her program and giving back to her community are two things Coach Messer takes on outside of her coaching responsibilities. By serving as a long time chaperone and a class adviser, Meredith serves as a mentor to students at her school, regardless of if they're in her soccer program or not. Camden Hills Regional High School should be extremely proud of their coach, Meredith Messer, as she has been named the 2018-19 NATIONAL Girls soccer Coach of the Year!

Seasons Coaching: 24 | Career Wins: 260

Coaching Highlights: Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Coach of the Year (1996, 12), Maine Soccer Coaches Association New England Regional Large school Coach of the Year (2016), Northern Maine Coach of the Year, Maine Soccer Coaches Association (2017), New England Regional Large School Coach of the Year, and Midcoast Hall of Fame Inductee (2019).

Philosophy of Athletics

Coach Messer believes that athletics should provide young women the chance to challenge themselves, be part of something bigger than themselves and to build confidence. She strives to create an environment where it is okay to fail as long as you are working hard, an environment where your contribution is valued and your obligation to your teammate comes before you obligation to yourself and where your attitude and work ethic brings you the reward of being successful with wins - just as it will in life, in your job, family and other relationships. If her players leave her program with confidence in their abilities to work with others, a willingness to be challenged and never settle for less than their best, and know how to put a team or family first, then she has been successful.
