Grant Fisher is leaving Grand Blanc (Michigan) High School as one of the best high school runners in history. At the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) Division 1 state finals this May, Fisher astounded the crowd with a record-breaking performance in the 1600-meter run, followed by his fifth individual state title overall and third straight in the 3200-meter run. Fisher won both races quite comfortably, beating both second place finishers by more than seven seconds.

His time in the 1600, 4:00.28, broke the previous MHSAA state record of 4:07.67 set by former Grand Blanc runner Omar Kaddurah, who inspired Fisher when he was an up-and-coming runner in middle school. His record time is also good enough to place him in the National High School Sports Record Book, second only to the great Alan Webb who ran a 3:59.51 in 2001.

Remarkably, Fisher added to his list of accomplishments just days later by running a sub-four minute mile at the Nike Festival of Miles in St. Louis, Missouri, becoming just the seventh high school athlete to do so with a time of 3:59.38.

Also a two-time MHSAA state champion in cross country, Fisher was named Michigan High School Athlete of the Year in both cross country and track. He will attend Stanford University in the fall.
