After an extensive search process, the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) Executive Board has selected Mick Hoffman as the next WIAA Executive Director of the Association. Hoffman, who currently serves as assistant superintendent for Vancouver Public Schools, will officially replace current Executive Director Mike Colbrese, beginning this summer.
“The WIAA Executive Board is very impressed with Mick’s longtime dedication to education and education-based activities,” said Board President Pat McCarthy. “The future of the WIAA is bright with Mick’s skill and leadership.”
Before taking over as an assistant superintendent, Hoffman served as the district athletic director for Vancouver Public Schools from 2007 to 2015. As the athletic director at VPS, Hoffman developed a summer Coaches’ Institute, a continuing education opportunity where coaches throughout the district and southwest Washington had the opportunity to learn from medical and industry professionals.
Hoffman also represented WIAA District IV on the WIAA Executive Board from 2016-18 where he was a member of the Classification Committee and chaired the WIAA Recruiting Committee.
Serving at virtually every level of the WIAA, Hoffman got his start as a language arts and social studies teacher at Fort Vancouver High School and Hudson’s Bay High School in Vancouver, Washington. He has head coaching experience with boys’ basketball as well as boys’ and girls’ golf.
Hoffman graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education before earning a Master’s of Education all from the University of Portland.
“It’s an honor to be considered to lead such an amazing organization that serves our state,” said Hoffman. “I’ll look to continue the great work that Mike has led with the staff and board for the last 25 years.”
Hoffman will be the fifth Executive Director in WIAA history, replacing Colbrese who is in his 26th year with the Association.
