Next month, the Women’s Sports Foundation is celebrating the 30th annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) on February 3, with help from the recently launched NGWSD.org.

NGWSD is a national celebration to mark the extraordinary achievements of women and girls in sports. The launch of NGWSD.org was accompanied by the unveiling of the 2016 logo and theme: Leading the Way.

Communities across all 50 states are hosting events to honor their female athletes. Prospective participants can jumpstart their own celebration on NGWSD.org by downloading the Event Action Kit, featuring helpful planning tools such as the official logo, posters, tips and a checklist.

The website also features information about NGWSD Coalition activities on Capitol Hill and its key supporters, in addition to detailing events nationwide.

NGWSD.org was founded courtesy of the NGWSD Coalition and its premiere partners, the National Women’s Law Center, the President’s Council for Fitness, Sports and Nutrition and Girls, Inc.

This year, NGWSD is recognizing Women’s Sports Foundation President Angela Hucles, Benjamin Franklin Middle School teacher Sarah Egan, and six-time Winter X Games freeskiing medalist Grete Eliassen. To acknowledge the success of those three and others like them, the hashtag #NGWSD is being used to document festivities throughout the nation.

The NFHS has previously hosted 11 NGWSD events. The most recent celebration took place in 2010 and offered local schools an opportunity to attend an awards luncheon and to learn about female athletes leading the way in Indianapolis.
