Peter Weber will be the next executive director of the Oregon School Activities Association.

Weber was appointed by the OSAA Executive Board following the announcement earlier this week that current executive director Tom Welter will retire July 31.

A member of the 12‐person, Wilsonville‐based OSAA staff since 1999, Weber has served as an assistant executive director for the past nine years. Previously he was the Association’s public relations director.

“I sincerely appreciate the opportunity to serve the entire Association as the executive director,” Weber said. “I look forward to working closely with the Executive Board, current staff and our member schools as we continue our efforts to provide positive experiences for students throughout Oregon.”

Weber, 42, has worked extensively with rule interpretations and coordinated state championships for soccer, speech, golf and baseball. He has served as staff liaison to and coordinated OSAA Classification and Districting and Rankings Committees.

"We deeply appreciate the work Tom Welter has done during his tenure for high school activities in Oregon, but we are also extremely pleased Peter Weber will be the OSAA's next executive director,” said Andy Gardner, president of the OSAA Executive Board.  “Peter's work with the many school and stakeholder groups has left a strong impression of a highly professional and ethical person, one who will advance the ideals of the Association."

“The unanimous vote of support by the OSAA Executive Board to elect Peter Weber to the Executive Director position will provide the organization and member schools a seamless transition,” added board vice president Don Grotting.  “Peter is truly a great advocate for all student activities, while also understanding the differences and needs of our diverse member schools.”

During his 17‐year, OSAA career, Weber has overseen advancements in the association’s website and the development of a rankings formula to draw playoff brackets. He has an expert understanding of OSAA Handbook rules and policies having served as the publication’s editor.

Prior to the OSAA, Weber was director of alumni and public relations at Central Catholic High School in Portland, his alma mater. Weber attended St. Mary’s College in Moraga where he graduated cum laude with a B.A. in communications in 1995.
