PIAA Holds Annual Officials Convention

NJSIAA's Larry White speaks at the PIAA Officials Convetion

Over 1,000 officials attended the 2017 Officials Convention August 4th—5th in Harrisburg, PA. The event is the largest officials convention in the country.

Over the course of two days they attended over 85 clinics and meetings to learn and improve as officials To cap of a successful convention, the 30 years of service banquet awarded 82 officials for their continued service to athletics.

There were also two distinguished awards given: Kenneth Miller, a long time coach, was awarded the 2017 Beverly M. Owens-Gaither Meritorious Service Award for his continued service to the PIAA. Jeanne Howley, who was a swimming and diving official for over 42 years with the last 10 of them being the state wide swimming and diving rules interpreter, was awarded the 2017 Mario J. Donnangelo Distinguished Service Award, the highest award the PIAA bestows on a registered sports official.

Larry White the Assistant Executive Director of the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association was the keynote speaker.
