A new exhibition at the South Dakota State Historical Society is putting the spotlight on the official NFHS umpire signals.

The new Play Ball! exhibit at the Historical Society in Pierre explores the state’s rich baseball history. From the early town teams to the establishment of both amateur and professional leagues, South Dakotans have seen many great players and great teams.

The official signals are posted alongside umpire's equipment, allowing visitors to put on the pads and demonstrate the signals themselves. They are displayed next to information about Amanda Clement, who was the first woman to umpire a baseball game.

"Thus far, the exhibition has been a great success," said Kate Vandel, curator of exhibits at the historical society.

The Play Ball! exhibit will be on display until the Spring 2016.
