Philosophy of Athletics
In teaching physics, Coach DeAngelis' major goal is to help my students make a fundamental change in the way they see the world. In coaching the nordic ski team, my hope is to help my athletes make a fundamental change in the way they see themselves! There are several basic beliefs that form the foundation of the approach he uses to bring that dream to reality.
Hard work makes his team competitive. It also makes it fun to be on the cross-country ski team - his skiers know that they are are in this together! His teams are consistently on the podium at the state championships, often on top. That does not happen because he sets the goal of winning the state championship every year. He believes it happens because he focuses on each athlete becoming the best skier they can be, each athlete supporting all of their teammates at all times, each athlete training and competing with joy, and everyone treating the team as their second family. Coach DeAngelis believes that if his skiers can excel in three areas they will be successful: physical, mental, and technical. So, in every practice he builds in something that addresses each of these areas.
