Periodically, The NFHS Voice will be presented in the form of video. This week, NFHS CEO Karissa Niehoff shares some of the issues facing the 51 member associations of the NFHS. She said states continue to face challenges with retaining officials due in large part to the behavior of coaches, parents and other fans. She said perhaps more concerning are the increasing number of transfer requests and the involvement of state legislatures in the affairs of the associations. She asks for support of these associations as they provide opportunities for millions of students to participate in high school activity programs.
Dr. Karissa L. Niehoff is in her seventh year as chief executive officer of the NFHS, the national leader and advocate for high school sports and performing arts programs based in Indianapolis. She is the first female to head the national leadership organization for high school athletics and performing arts activities and the sixth full-time chief executive of the NFHS. She previously was executive director of the Connecticut Association of Schools-Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference for seven years.
