Kathryn McLaughlin of California currently holds the national record in the 100-yard butterfly.
In recent years, the assault on the national swimming records has become an almost annual event. Each season, the record times of high schoolers have been lowered time and time again.
Names like Knutson, Weitzeil, McLaughlin, Nolan and Schooling have repeatedly been added to the swimming records. In 2015, the Carmel (Indiana) High School girls team laid claim to all three relay events.
New names are sure to emerge as the season progresses. In fact, the 2015-16 season has already seen the addition of a new name to the national records. Lindsey Horejsi of Minnesota set the national record in the 100-yard breaststroke in November.
