A relay team from Port Arthur Memorial High School in Port Arthur, Texas, set the national record for the boys 4x200m relay with a time of 1:23.52 at this year’s Texas University Interscholastic League State Track and Field Championships on May 12.

The Class 5A relay team members included junior Xavier Hull, freshman Ireon Brown, senior Deandre Angelle and senior Kary Vincent.

The previous national record was 1:23.92, set in 2007 by a team from Fort Bend Hightower High School in Missouri City, Texas.

In what could be considered one of the fastest collection of 4x200-meter relay teams in high school track history, the historic relay times did not end there for the UIL championships. The following day, during the 6A 4x200m relay finals, the team from Conroe The Woodlands High School in Woodlands, Texas, would come just shy of breaking the record set just the day before with a time of 1:23.81. This time ranks second all time.

Additionally, the 4x200m relay teams that took second place during both the 5A and 6A finals, Converse Judson High School (1:23.97) and Manvel High School (1:24.05), will also be added to the national record books with the fourth and seventh best times all time, respectively.
