Three Tips to Help Find the Best Online Workout

New workout ideas are everywhere these days, especially online. Whether it is a Pinterest workout, a workout from a celebrity trainer, or something your best friend insists you just have to try, it can be hard to discern which one is the right workout for you. Here are some quick things to keep in mind when checking out a workout found online:

  • Beware of lose weight quick schemes. Any workout promising quick weight loss with a minimal amount of effort should raise a red flag. A healthy weight loss goal for most people is 1-2 pounds a week. Keep this in mind when a workout claims it will help you drop 20 pounds in two weeks.
  • Don’t let pictures fool you. That picture of a girl with six-pack abs next to the new workout you want to try? She probably didn’t get that way doing the workout you are seeing. Creators of new workouts will often use a picture of a model to generate interest, so don’t expect to look like the person in the picture after doing a specific workout.
  • A workout should not be one-size fits all. Every person is at a different fitness level—from beginner to advanced. A workout should reflect the level you are, not the level the workout assumes you are. Be sure to pick a workout that can be modified to be more or less challenging if necessary. This will help you avoid injuries, while still challenging you to work hard.
