Timothy Jackson, the director of athletics for the Clark County School District, was selected Tuesday as executive director of the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association.
Jackson was selected by the NIAA’s Board of Control at the board’s quarterly meeting Tuesday at Palace Station. He was one of two finalists along with Ed Thompson, a director of athletics for the Florida High School Athletic Association.
A Bowling Green State graduate, Jackson will succeed Donnie Nelson and become the association’s sixth executive director, joining a list that includes Bert Cooper (1974-89); Jerry Hughes (1990-2007); Eddie Bonine (2007-14); and Bart Thompson (2015-21). Nelson has served as the executive director since 2021 and will retire from the position June. 1. Jackson was the athletic administrator at Durango High School in Las Vegas prior to becoming a director of athletics with the CCSD in April 2019.
“I want to formally thank the NIAA Board of Control for this opportunity,” Jackson said in a news release. “I am very excited to begin working for the students of Nevada.”
