By NFHS on October 04, 2021 Title IX Print

Passionate girls sports advocate Dorothy McIntyre joined the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) in 1970 as an associate director to help schools develop girls sports programs. The year prior, she assisted the group responsible for the creation of the state’s first girls sports guidelines.

During McIntyre’s first seven years on the job, she guided the MSHSL’s adoption of 11 girls state tournaments including its first in 1972 with track and field.

McIntyre’s contributions later resulted in the Star Tribune naming her one of Minnesota's 100 most influential sports figures of the 20th Century. #TitleIXat50
