Title IX Milestones: Helen Maroulis (Maryland)

Helen Maroulis became the first U.S. woman to capture an Olympic wrestling gold medal with her win at the 2016 Summer Olympics. Maroulis, who grew up in Rockville, Maryland, attended Magruder High School and placed sixth as a junior in the 2008 Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association (MPSSAA) State Wrestling Tournament.

Following her junior season, Maroulis departed for Northern Michigan, where she attended the U.S. Olympic Education Center. In 2018, she was inducted as the first female member of the Maryland State Wrestling Hall of Fame. #TitleIXat50
