Title IX Milestones: Ohio Baseball Hero Katie Horstman Transcendent as Player, Coach

By NFHS on August 27, 2021 Title IX Print

Lacking chances to compete, Katie Horstman played in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL) after her sophomore, junior and senior years of high school. She was named an AAGPBL All-Star in 1953 and 1954, and later featured in a scene of "A League of Their Own."

In the wake of her playing career, Horstman returned to her hometown of Minster, Ohio, and spent more than 20 years as a teacher and coach. She started many of the school's girls programs in 1972, winning six state titles in track and field and cross country. She also coached basketball, gymnastics, softball and volleyball. #TitleIXat50
