Title IX Milestones: Patty Sheehan (Nevada)

In 1972, Earl Wooster High School golfer Patty Sheehan became the first individual and team champion in a Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association (NIAA) girls-sanctioned sport. She won three consecutive individual and team girls golf championships from 1972-74.

Sheehan later captured multiple professional LPGA Tour tournaments and major championships en route to an induction in the LPGA Hall of Fame. In 1987, she was named a Sports Illustrated "Sportsperson of the Year." She is also the NIAA’s lone selection for the National High School Hall of Fame. #TitleIXat50
