UHSAA Announces Ryan Bishop as Assistant Director

Ryan Bishop has been named UHSAA Assistant Director replacing Kevin Dustin.  Bishop has worked for Davis High School as a teacher and head football coach since 2001 while working as an administrative intern since 2010. Bishop will begin his role with the UHSAA immediately.

As an administrator at Davis High School, Bishop's duties included being the Dean of school’s Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) students, acting as the school representative for student activities and working with school counselors to ensure the school's NCAA clearing house status.

"Davis High School afforded me wonderful opportunities. I am so thankful for the people and for the relationships I have there," Bishop said.

Bishop served 16 years as a head football coach, spending his first three years at Bear River High School before coming to Davis. In 2004, Bishop and the Davis Darts captured the UHSAA 5A State Football Championship.  

Bishop has been a member of the American Football Association as well as the Utah Football Coaches Association since 1997. He served as the Utah Football Coaches Association President from 2010-2012. He received the National Federation of High Schools Western States Coach of the Year award in 2011.

“Ryan’s energy, enthusiasm, excitement and experience have qualified him for this position.  He has prepared himself throughout his career for this opportunity to share his leadership and passion for education-based activities with our students, coaches, officials and administrators.  He will fit in well with our staff, and we are thrilled to have him join our team.” said UHSAA Executive Director Rob Cuff.

A graduate of Southern Utah University,  Bishop will serve as the director of Baseball, Basketball,  Football, Golf and Theatre while also overseeing coaches education and sponsorships.

The UHSAA is the leadership organization for high school athletic and fine arts activities in Utah.  Since 1927, the UHSAA has led the development of education-based interscholastic athletic and fine arts activities that help students succeed in their lives.  The belief is these activities are an essential part of the high school experience and go a long way to improving academic performance and producing better citizens. 

 

The UHSAA reaches 136 member schools and over 88,000 participants in high school activity programs.  The organization sanctions 10 girls’ sports and 10 boys’ sports and music, theatre and speech/debate in five different classifications. The UHSAA is governed by a 30 member Board of Trustees made up of elected school board members and superintendents representing all regions and areas throughout Utah, principals from each of the five classifications and a state board of education representative.  The organization is committed to stressing educational and cultural values, improving the participation experience in activities, promoting life skills and lessons involved in competitive activities, fostering sportsmanship and mutual respect and assisting those who oversee high school sports and activities in UHSAA member high schools.
