By NFHS Executive Director Bob Gardner and NFHS Director of Sports and Officials Education Theresia Wynns We would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to this inaugural posting of the NFHS Officiating Today online publication. We hope you enjoy its articles that deal with the avocation of high school officiating.

There’s a long history regarding how this new online publication came to be.

Many of you might recall that in 1996, the NFHS took the officials association content that was formerly housed in the National Federation NEWS and started a separate hard-copy publication – the National Federation Officials’ Quarterly.

A year later, we changed the name from “National Federation” to “NFHS.” That stayed the same through the end of the 2009-10 school year.

At that time, the officials content was housed on the NFHS/ArbiterSports Web site. That ran from 2010 to 2013 in which we’d post a new article every two weeks. The final article for that site was posted on July 15.

With NFHS Officiating Today, we are transitioning to an online publication format for officials that is very similar to the NFHS Coaching Today. In this posting, we will post an entire new publication at one time.

The NFHS is in the process of revamping its Web site. When that occurs in the very near future, we will post the NFHS Officiating Today content differently – articles will be posted on a more ongoing basis, encouraging readers to visit the site often for new content.

The identified goal on all of this is to provide a better delivery system for information and content directed toward individuals dedicated to the avocation of high school officiating. We are excited about what the future brings in this endeavor, and hope you appreciate and enjoy what it has to offer.
