The Washington Interscholastic Activities Association has announced the launch of Activities Matter, a new online resource designed to help member schools and their communities support the case for interscholastic sports and activities.  

Activities Matter consolidates a variety of dynamic resources, programs, and original content to highlight the long-term benefits associated with student participation in sports and activities, and why it is vital for communities to support their schools’ programs. The web resource will include related statistics and research, as well as other relevant news and resources that support the message that sports and activities are a critical part of the total education process.

To support this message, Activities Matter will regularly offer inspiring “Alumni Spotlight” stories and videos (like the interview with NFL Referee, Craig Wrolstad) highlighting the role sports and activities played in the lives of individuals who have gone on to do something noteworthy after participating in sports and/or activities in high school.

The online resource also features a “Student Spotlight” section dedicated to student participant success stories from around the state. Each month, two students, one male and one female, will be featured.

The “Parent Center” is a resource for timely links to articles that contain a variety of information specifically for parents that ranges from how to talk to teens about difficult situations, to assistance on getting students prepared for college.

A downloadable PowerPoint summarizing key facts and compelling data is available for anyone needing presentation material to support the value of school programs.  The presentation will be updated annually.

Administrators, coaches and parents are an integral part of sports and activities on a daily basis, and the WIAA knows that these groups are often called upon to support the case for interscholastic activities.
