The NFHS is committed to providing an inclusive and positive environment for all students and to encourage participation. The NFHS believes that an understanding of the unique physical, psychological, emotional, and developmental needs of all middle-level age student participants should drive all aspects of middle-level education.
Our goal is to guide middle-level students, coaches, administrators, parents, community and collaborative stakeholders to work together to influence every student to realize their potential to become the best versions of themselves in a safe environment. We believe middle-level Education-Based Activity programs exist to connect students to the fabric and culture of the school which leads to academic and life-long success.
The Middle School Committee will serve in an advisory role to the mission and current foundations of the National Federation of State High School Associations. Our ultimate purpose behind education-based activities is human growth and development which focuses on behavior, socialization, and self-realization.
Student participation in education-based middle school athletics and performing arts:
Middle school students across the nation participate in interscholastic athletics, and it is important, as a teacher/coach, to provide a positive and rewarding experience for all involved. This is why the National Federation of State High School Associations has created the course, Middle School Coaching.
This course highlights your role as being a teacher first and coach second, ensuring that participation in athletics at the interscholastic level is, first and foremost, an educational experience. Middle school activity programs exist to connect students to the fabric and culture of the school, which will ultimately lead to academic and life-long success.
Learning to be an effective leader is one of the most important skills that students can learn in high school activities. To help students learn leadership skills, the NFHS has partnered with the Michigan High School Athletic Association to bring you this course in our Student Leadership series: BECOMING A LEADER This course will help you build the foundation to be an effective leader! This course will focus on what it means to be a leader, actions you can take to become a leader, and how to model that leadership. You will learn from the practical thoughts, advice, and experiences of other student athletes from around the country.
